This policy explains what information Midfield collects when you use this site, what we do with it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It applies to midfield.live and its subdomains.

What we collect
Information you give us. If you sign in to comment, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from the sign-in provider you used. If you subscribe to the newsletter, we store your email address. If you email us, we keep the correspondence.
Information collected automatically. Like any web server, ours records requests: IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the page you came from, and the time. This is used to serve the site, to keep it working, and to detect abuse.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and how people arrive. It sets cookies and reports aggregate patterns rather than individual behaviour to us.
We do not ask for, and have no use for, your date of birth, your address, your phone number or any financial detail. Nothing on this site requires payment.
Why we collect it
- To deliver the site and keep it available
- To publish comments you choose to write, under the name on your account
- To send the newsletter, if you asked for it
- To measure which coverage is read, so we know what to do more of
- To serve advertising, which is what pays for the site
- To detect and block automated abuse, scraping and attacks
- To answer your messages and keep a record of corrections
Who else sees it
We do not sell personal data. It is shared only with the services required to run the site:
- Hosting and network providers, who necessarily process requests to reach us
- Google Analytics, for audience measurement
- Advertising partners, which may set their own cookies and use them to select advertisements — see the cookie policy
- Sign-in providers, if you choose to sign in with one
- Email delivery services, for the newsletter
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to investigate abuse of the site.
How long we keep it
Server logs are kept for a limited period and then discarded. Comments remain while your account does. Newsletter subscriptions last until you unsubscribe. Correspondence is kept as long as it is useful for the matter it concerns and for maintaining a correction record.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. You can withdraw consent for anything you consented to, including the newsletter — every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and it works. You can object to how we process your data.
Depending on where you live, these rights may be backed by law, including the GDPR if you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. We apply them regardless of where you are, because operating two standards would be more work than operating one.

Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to systems holding personal data is restricted and protected. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise — but we do not store anything a breach would make especially valuable.
Links elsewhere
Pages here link to other sites. Once you follow one, you are subject to that site's privacy practices rather than ours, and we have no control over them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top will change and the update will be noted on the site. Continuing to use Midfield after a change means you accept the revised policy.
